The Draconis family(dragons, wyverns and lindworms etc) are often mistaken as close relatives to lizards. However they're closer related to birds. The scales may seem like the ones found on lizards and snakes, they're more likely to be a result of convergent evolution rather than evolved from the same ancestor. Another feature that resembles birds are the amount of toes, which is four like birds. Some of the larger dragons and wyverns have however five "fingers" holding the membrane. Some argue that one of them (the little finger) is a vestigial finger, re-developed to support the weight, while some argue that the finger never became vestigial, and the different bone structure simply is just a evolutionary trait from it being used more for steering than lifting. Tales and myths from adventurers and sailors from afar even tells about feathered dragons! If that were to be true, that would truly validate their heritage... Did you know, the difference between dragons and wyverns aren't the amount of limbs (commonly believed dragons have four legs and two wings, wyverns two legs and two wings) but rather the way they produce the fire? Wyverns utilizes a liquid containing methane stored in glands near the lungs that mixes with a liquid from glands in the back of the mouth to get a chemical reaction that result in a flame. The dragon on the other hand is a true magical creature that has evolved the affinity for magically produce flame directly through breath. No wyverns has evolved to have six limbs, since that's a feature evolved from after dragons and wyverns ancestors split, whilst some dragons have four limbs whilst some have six. All dragon fetuses start of with six limbs but but just doesn't evolve further beyond that, vestigial arms can be found in some species.
Do dragons taste like chicken?
